I’m listening to Barbra Lica’s London Town while I’m writing this and there’s a smile a mile wide on my face. Her music is new to me and it’s quite a welcome addition to the current playlist.
Even at 6:30 in the morning with only one coffee in the tank, Ms. Lica awakens the spirit and toes start tapping. She is infectious to the nth degree. Coffee Shop, Nashville and Lovefool follow London Town and they’re all engaging. Her track 5 O’Clock Lullaby may be my new favourite tune – she paints a picture that would be right at home on a Tom Waits album.
Fantastic.
With that in mind, I recommend, nay, urge, you to ring up the Flato Markham or visit their website to get your tickets now. Her show there on Wednesday, April 6 will be a joyous experience – pure bliss one thinks.
This description from the Flato is pretty much on target:
“Upbeat, optimistic, charming, cheerful: Barbra’s live shows have captivated audiences all over North America with her genuine warmth and confident stage presence. Having performed everywhere from New York City’s legendary Birdland to Toronto’s prestigious Koerner Hall, Barbra is a favourite Canadian Juno Award-nominated jazz singer. Following her popular and sunny Digital Concert at The Barn premiered by Westben last season, she joins us at the Flato Markham Theatre with music and stories from across her five albums of originals and standards, re-imagined for the 14-piece Toronto Chamber-Pop Orchestra. ”
