YRAC member and artist Yafang Shi’s two pieces of artwork are being exhibited at the “Facing Forward: 2024 Juried Exhibition” at the St. Lawrence College’s Marianne van Silfhout Gallery.
Yafang’s documentary photograph “Indigenous Girls at a Women’s Memorial March” was taken at the Women’s Memorial March in honour of the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in Vancouver in February 2024. Another documentary photograph “MeToo” was taken at the Women’s March after the inauguration of Donald Trump’s presidency in Washington D. C. in 2019.
Yafang believes that her works on social movements for women’s rights and social justice are also for social movements for a better world. With support from the Marianne van Silfhout Gallery, Yafang will donate all proceeds from these two photographs printed in various sizes to two organizations that advocate for women’s rights and social justice. The proceeds from the photograph “Indigenous Girls at a Women’s Memorial March” will go to the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre and the proceeds from the photograph “MeToo” will go to the Chinese Feminism Toronto.
The “Facing Forward: 2024 Juried Exhibition” will run until September 13, 2024. Details of the exhibition: https://www.stlawrencecollege.ca/community/marianne-van-silfhout-gallery
