The York Region Arts Council is thrilled to announce that nomination submissions for the 2nd Annual YR Arts Awards are now officially open.
The York Region Arts Council’s “YR Arts Awards” are an annual celebration of the imagination in all its many forms. YR Arts Awards are meant to showcase a true reflection of the creative community of York Region with works by YRAC Members voted by YRAC Members.
There are five categories, below, plus the Members’ Choice Award. YRAC is once again asking the community “Y Art”? Let’s celebrate the inspiration and impact of artistic work!
“Community Engagement Award”
This award recognizes art as an active connector within the community. How did the work engage the community? What groups of our community did it serve and how?
“Innovator Award”
This award recognizes art as a way to introduce new ideas and perspectives. How was the work innovative? Did it launch new prospects, methods, or concepts to encourage artistic growth?
“Experience YR Award”
This award recognizes art as a tool to build tourism in York Region. How did this work serve as a regional attraction, destination, or entertainment for locals and visitors? Did it promote engagement with culture and businesses?
“Sustainability Award”
This award recognizes art as a way to create sustainability. How did the work address climate change, land stewardship, and ecosystem conservation, or preserve natural resources for future generations?
“Emerging Award”
This award recognizes art as a catalyst to increase awareness and advance the profile of an artist with less than 3 years of experience working professionally in their medium. How did the work propel the artist forward, create opportunity for advancement in the artist’s practice, and introduce the artist to new audiences or experiences?
“Members Choice Award”
This award recognizes an artist selected by the community of YRAC members through voting. The submission that receives the most overall votes for favourite art submission will be recognized for the Member’s Choice Award.
The YR Arts Awards Evaluation Committee will select 5 finalists in each of the categories from all the submitted nominations.
The 5 FINALISTS in each category will be posted and open for Membership voting on March 15th. A winner will be chosen by the YRAC Members through an online – one-submission only voting system with a WINNER in each category.
There will also be an overall “Member’s Choice Award” which will include the Finalist with the MOST overall votes across all 5 categories.
Winners will receive:
- $1,000 in cash and prizes
- Official YR ARTS AWARD WINNER CERTIFICATE
- Recognition on all YRAC and Experience York Region Platforms. We will feature all the Winners and Finalists on YRAC website.
